Geekpedia.com downtime caused by resource abuse

If you experienced problems accessing Geekpedia.com, Geekshout.com, Dotnetonweb.com or Redmondtimes.com that’s because the server where I host these websites had web access disabled for them. The cause, as my host (Site5) says, is “Resource Abuse”, and I quote:

This site was generating a load of +70 on the server which immediately dropped to below 4 when web access was disabled.

I still have no idea what caused the server load, wether it was a traffic spike, ddos attack or a script gone wrong, but I do know I lost around 5500 visitors.

While I’m having an overall good experience with Site5, the fact that they disabled web access for my website for 17 hours and I’m still not sure why, wasn’t my best experience yet. I asked them if the connections have a common referrer or if they come from the same IP, but I only got:

I am not sure what was causing the load on your account as it is not documented anywhere.

I’d still recommend Site5 and I’ll continue to use them as long as these type of issues don’t keep ocurring.
