Handy DOS commands

Good old MS-DOS has some commands that can help you a lot in many cases. Some will give you information about your network or even allow you to check your email account. These commands were tested on the Windows XP operating system.

Start by opening an MS-DOS window (you can do that by going to Start Menu -> Run and typing command). Now try one of the following commands:

systeminfo
The systeminfo command will give you all sorts of information about the current computer, such as the OS you are running, the installation date, system uptime, etc.

ipconfig
This command retrieves the configuration of your network adapters, as shown in the sample result below:
